Fraudsters, in addition to standard phone calls on behalf of bank employees, can use various technologies to be more convincing.
For example, fraudsters use caller ID spoofing (phone spoofing) to change a phone number. In such cases, the fraudster calls, and the Ukrainian bank number is displayed on the smartphone screen. Thanks to the spoofing technology, fraudsters can imitate robotic bank advisors, when a robotic voice, under various pretexts, informs about the need to provide bank data to a fake bank employee.
In addition to the three digits on the back of the card (CVV/CVC code), codes (one-time passwords) of banks and mobile operators, PIN code for the card, fraudsters can also extract information about the financial phone number and password for authorization in online banking.
What to do in such cases?
If a bank employee calls, it is better to hang up and call the official bank number indicated on the back of the payment card yourself.
Do not under any circumstances report:
- three-digit number on the back of the card;
- codes of banks and mobile operators;
- Internet banking passwords;
- card pin code.
